Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has issued a pointed response to his predecessor, Tanko Al-Makura, amid growing tensions over the state’s political succession.

The disagreement centres on Sule’s reported backing of Ahmed Aliyu Wadada as a preferred successor, a move that has drawn criticism from Al-Makura, a key political figure in the state.

Addressing the issue, Sule defended his independence in political decision-making, including consultations with Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“Senator Al-Makura has a right to his opinion, but he has no right over matters he does not know — even if he gave birth to me,” Sule said. “If I decide to brief the president with a prepared candidate and do not carry him along, that is not his right.”

The remarks highlight a widening rift between the two men, once close allies, now divided over influence and the direction of Nasarawa’s political future.

Political analysts say the dispute reflects deeper power dynamics within the state, as key figures position themselves ahead of upcoming electoral contests.
