Wolverhampton Wanderers are nearing a deal to sign Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche from Spanish side Getafe, following a reported €20 million bid, according to transfer sources including Soccernet.ng and Fabrizio Romano. Negotiations between Wolves, Getafe, and Uche’s representatives are progressing rapidly, with hopes that he could feature for the Premier League club as early as this weekend.
Journalist Buchi Laba revealed that this is the third official offer Getafe has received for the 22-year-old this summer, following interest from Everton, Brentford, and Real Sociedad. Laba noted that advanced talks are underway and a contract agreement could be reached imminently if all goes smoothly.
Getafe faces financial challenges under La Liga’s strict financial regulations, having registered only three of nine summer signings so far. Club president Ángel Torres admitted that selling Uche—which carries a €25 million release clause—is considered the best way to free up registration space, despite reluctance to lose one of their top players.
Uche’s impressive 2024-25 season with Getafe, where he scored four goals and provided six assists across 33 league appearances, has attracted wide European interest. Known for his versatility as both a central midfielder and an attacker, Uche also recently earned call-ups to Nigeria’s Super Eagles squad for major qualifiers.
Several Premier League clubs, including Everton and Leeds United, have watched Uche’s progress closely. However, Wolves’ swift official bid and intent to finalize the deal give them a strong advantage in securing the young talent before the transfer window closes.
If the move is finalized, Uche is expected to debut at Wolves’ Molineux Stadium soon, adding youthful dynamism to the squad’s midfield and attacking options.
