Former Rivers State Governor and senior politician Nyesom Wike has declared his intention to wrest political power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and return it to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking at a political gathering, Wike struck a defiant tone, framing his ambition as both a political mission and a matter of faith.
“I’m going to take this power from APC, back to PDP, by the grace of God,” he said, drawing applause from supporters.
The outspoken politician, who remains one of the most influential figures in Nigeria’s political landscape, has been at the centre of shifting alliances and internal party tensions in recent years. His statement is widely seen as a signal of renewed political mobilisation ahead of future electoral contests.
Wike did not provide specific details on how or when he plans to achieve his goal, but his remarks suggest an effort to galvanise PDP loyalists and challenge the dominance of the ruling party.
Nigeria’s political environment has remained highly competitive, with power struggles within and between major parties shaping national discourse. Analysts say Wike’s declaration could further intensify political realignments as parties position themselves for upcoming elections.
Neither the APC nor the PDP leadership has officially responded to Wike’s comments.
