Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has confidently backed President Bola Tinubu’s chances in the 2027 presidential election. Speaking in Abuja, Wike challenged former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai’s earlier forecast that Tinubu would place third in the race.
“I can place a bet with confidence that President Bola Tinubu will win the 2027 presidential election,” Wike declared during a media interaction. Questioning El-Rufai’s mathematical claims, he asked, “If Tinubu will come third, who will come first and second?”
El-Rufai had recently argued that Tinubu’s path to victory was blocked, predicting no outright winner in the first round and warning that the incumbent lacks broad popular support. He encouraged Nigerians to assess Tinubu’s performance objectively.
Wike, however, insisted the political landscape has changed since 2023, reducing the influence of rivals such as Labour Party’s Peter Obi. “Let me tell you, in 2027, Peter Obi will not be a threat to President Tinubu. I know what I am saying,” Wike emphasised, noting Obi’s significant but insufficient votes in the last election.
