Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has ordered an immediate end to the use of parks, gardens and other designated green areas in Abuja as car dealership lots.

The directive was announced on Wednesday by Lere Olayinka, the minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media.

According to Olayinka, the move is aimed at protecting Abuja’s green spaces and addressing environmental concerns, including flooding.

The minister has directed that car dealers operating from parks, gardens and other areas designated as green spaces should cease such activities immediately.

The FCT administration has in recent months intensified efforts to enforce planning regulations and reclaim spaces originally designated for recreational and environmental purposes.

Green areas and parks are regarded as important to the capital’s urban environment, helping to improve drainage, reduce the impact of flooding and preserve the city’s aesthetic appeal.

The latest directive is expected to affect car dealerships operating in areas that were not originally approved for commercial activities.

The administration said the enforcement is part of wider efforts to restore Abuja’s master plan and ensure that public spaces are used for their intended purposes.
