The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has warned manufacturers, importers, distributors and retailers against selling consumer goods bearing misleading, deceptive or incomplete labels.

The commission issued the warning on Wednesday, following findings from its market surveillance operations, routine inspections and quality assurance activities.

According to the FCCPC, its monitoring efforts uncovered products carrying information that could mislead consumers about their contents, quality or other key details.

The commission said such practices undermine consumers’ right to accurate and reliable information when making purchasing decisions.

It therefore urged businesses involved in the production, importation, distribution and sale of consumer goods to ensure that all product labels are clear, accurate, complete and compliant with relevant regulations.

The FCCPC warned that businesses found violating consumer protection laws could face appropriate regulatory action.

The commission also called on consumers to remain vigilant and report products with suspicious, deceptive or incomplete labelling to the appropriate authorities.

The FCCPC said protecting consumers from deceptive trade practices remained a key part of its mandate, stressing the importance of transparency and accountability across the marketplace.
