Abdulmumin Jibrin, member of the House of Representatives for Kiru/Bebeji and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has urged APC governors to treat Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike with respect and avoid public humiliation.
Speaking Monday, Jibrin said Wike — a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member associated with the cross‑party Rainbow Coalition — played a decisive role in President Bola Tinubu’s 2023 victory and remains an asset to the ruling party.
“Wike is an asset to the APC and should not be embarrassed publicly,” Jibrin said. He credited Wike with helping secure Rivers State for the APC and working behind the scenes in the FCT to ensure some candidates stepped down in favour of APC contenders. “Every APC member benefited from Wike’s efforts to deliver Tinubu,” he added, describing the FCT minister as the “number 32 governor.”
The appeal follows a statement by the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) that it would not endorse any alliance or political arrangement seen as undermining Tinubu’s re‑election bid or APC candidates in the 2027 elections. The PGF remarks were widely reported as a rebuke to cross‑party efforts associated with the Rainbow Coalition.
Jibrin called on APC governors to recognise Wike’s contributions as part of the broader political structure supporting the Tinubu administration. His comments come amid ongoing debate within the APC over Wike’s political activities and his relationship with party members in the lead‑up to the 2027 poll.
