Sule Lamido has expressed concern over what he described as Nigeria’s increasingly uncertain political trajectory, warning that the country’s political landscape has become difficult to interpret as attention gradually shifts towards the 2027 elections.
In a statement shared on Facebook on Wednesday and titled “My Dilemma in Today’s Murky Political Environment”, the former Jigawa State governor said he was struggling to make sense of the current political climate and its evolving direction.
“I am trying hard to decipher and understand the political chemistry and direction of the moment in Nigeria as to make a less confused decision,” Lamido said, reflecting on what he sees as growing uncertainty within the nation’s political space.
The former governor also argued that many figures now occupying influential positions within both opposition parties and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) first built their political careers through the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Drawing a contrast with Nigeria’s democratic transition era, Lamido suggested that the political class of 1999 operated with clearer purpose and direction, implying that the present political atmosphere has become increasingly clouded by shifting loyalties and uncertain alliances.
His remarks come amid intensifying political conversations and early manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle, as political actors continue to reposition themselves across party lines.
