The United States military confirmed late Sunday the total destruction of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) headquarters in Tehran. However, the victory was tempered by the Pentagon’s first official announcement of American combat fatalities since the commencement of operations to overturn the Iranian government.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) released a statement via X (formerly Twitter) confirming the strike. The announcement was accompanied by declassified footage showing a barrage of missiles launched from a US Navy vessel in the Persian Gulf, followed by the high-precision pulverization of the IRGC’s urban command complex.
“America has the most powerful military on earth, and the IRGC no longer has a headquarters,” a CENTCOM spokesperson stated.
Despite the escalating violence and the report of US deaths, President Donald Trump maintained an optimistic timeline for the conclusion of the war. Speaking during a working breakfast with governors, the President suggested that the transition of power in Iran would be swift.
“It’s always been a four-week process,” Trump told the Daily Mail as missiles continued to rain on the Iranian capital.
The administration has not yet released the exact number of US casualties or the specific location where the fatalities occurred. Sources within the Pentagon suggest that the deaths may have resulted from retaliatory drone strikes or anti-aircraft fire during the Tehran offensive.
