The Director General of the National Population Commission (NPC), Dr. Abuh Mohammed, is leading a Nigerian delegation to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, United States.

Dr. Mohammed and members of the delegation are participating in the proceedings of the General Assembly’s Third Committee, also known as the Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee.

The Third Committee serves as a global platform for UN Member States to deliberate on social development, humanitarian affairs, human rights, and matters affecting the welfare of populations worldwide.

During the sessions, the NPC Director General is engaging in high-level discussions directly aligned with the Commission’s core mandate. Key focus areas include population dynamics, demographic trends, social development, and the critical role of reliable data in effective policy formulation and national development planning.

The Commission noted that its active participation under Dr. Mohammed’s leadership aims to strengthen Nigeria’s voice in global population discourse, while fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange.

The session continues this week as Member States proceed with deliberations on key global social and demographic issues before the committee.
