Two men have been confirmed dead following the collapse of a three-storey building under construction at Alagomeji, Yaba, Lagos, on Friday night.
Ibitayo Adenike, Acting Head of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Lagos Operations Office, confirmed the development in an interview with journalists on Saturday.
According to her, four survivors have so far been pulled from the debris and are receiving medical treatment, while rescue efforts are still underway.
The ill-fated structure, located at No. 333 Borno Street, caved in at around 8:30 p.m. on Friday, trapping an unknown number of persons beneath the rubble.
Mrs Adenike noted that the exact number of those still trapped could not be determined until the remains of the building were fully cleared.
Emergency responders at the site include operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Building Control Agency, and the Nigeria Police Force, among others.
