Nigerian Army troops have neutralised 11 terrorists and recovered a significant cache of weapons during a successful ambush operation in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
The operation, carried out by troops of the Nigerian Army’s ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the North-West, followed credible intelligence on the movement of a notorious terrorist cell responsible for attacks on rural communities within the axis.
According to military sources, the soldiers laid a strategic ambush along a known terrorist route, engaging the armed group in a fierce but brief firefight. The insurgents were overpowered, leading to the elimination of 11 members of the criminal gang.
Recovered items from the scene include assault rifles, magazines loaded with ammunition, improvised explosive devices, communication gadgets, and motorcycles used for mobility.
The Army noted that the operation forms part of intensified efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, protect vulnerable communities, and restore peace in Sokoto and neighbouring states.
Security operatives have since expanded clearance operations in the area to track down fleeing collaborators and safeguard residents as the dry season campaign intensifies.
