Vehicular movement along the Apo-Wasa Road in Abuja will be restricted for several hours on Friday, 13 June 2025, as the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) prepares for the official inauguration of a major road infrastructure by President Bola Tinubu.
According to an official statement issued by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the FCT Minister, the road will be closed to traffic from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm to ensure a smooth and secure event.
“The Apo-Wasa Road, in the Federal Capital Territory, which is to be inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu tomorrow, will be closed to vehicular movement between 11 am and 4 pm,” Olayinka confirmed.
The project to be commissioned is the newly completed Left-Hand Service Carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) Stage II, spanning from the Ring Road I Junction to Wasa Junction. The commissioning ceremony is scheduled to commence by 2:30 pm.
While acknowledging the temporary inconvenience, the FCTA urged residents and motorists to plan ahead and consider alternative routes during the period of the closure.
In a gesture reflecting local support, traders and technicians operating within the Apo Mechanic Village have voluntarily agreed to halt commercial activities on the day.
“Traders and mechanics in the bustling Apo Mechanic Village have resolved to suspend business operations for the day to welcome the President,” Olayinka disclosed.
The road commissioning is part of broader infrastructure development efforts in the Federal Capital Territory aimed at improving traffic flow, enhancing access to satellite districts, and stimulating economic activity in the region.
Residents commuting through the southern corridor of the capital are advised to factor the temporary closure into their travel plans to avoid delays.
