President Bola Tinubu will address the nation at 7 a.m. on Wednesday as part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Day.
His Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, announced the broadcast in a statement on Tuesday, confirming that it will air live on Channels Television and other outlets.
This will be Tinubu’s third Independence Day speech since taking office on 29 May 2023.
The anniversary is themed “Nigeria @ 65: All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation”, underscoring unity, patriotism, and collaboration across government, the private sector, civil society, and citizens to advance national peace and progress.
The Federal Government said the theme reflects Nigeria’s resilience since 1960, highlighting the need to consolidate past gains while pursuing new goals under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Other commemorative events include Juma’at prayers on Friday, 26 September, and an inter-denominational church service on Sunday, 28 September.
However, the government has cancelled the parade earlier scheduled for 1 October. The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, stressed that the cancellation does not diminish the significance of the milestone, adding that the country will still celebrate with “dignity and enthusiasm.”
