Media mogul and politician, Dele Momodu, has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration of singling out former Vice President Atiku Abubakar by withdrawing his police escorts.

Momodu made the allegation in a statement on Monday, describing the move as “vindictive” and “politically motivated”. He claimed that Atiku, a former presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was being deliberately targeted due to his persistent criticism of the government.

According to Momodu, the sudden removal of Atiku’s police protection raises serious concerns about fairness, security, and the treatment of opposition figures in a democracy. He argued that no former Vice President should be stripped of security personnel, especially given Nigeria’s current security challenges.

He urged the government to reconsider the decision, warning that such actions could deepen political tensions and erode public confidence in the administration’s commitment to democratic principles.

The Presidency has yet to respond to the allegation.
