President Bola Tinubu has signed legislation upgrading the Federal Polytechnic, Kaduna, into the Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna.

The development marks a major institutional change for the Kaduna-based polytechnic, which is set to become a federal university focused on technology and vocational studies.

Daniel Amos, the lawmaker representing Jema’a/Sanga Federal Constituency in Kaduna State, announced the development in a statement on Friday.

Amos commended Tajudeen Abbas, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who sponsored the bill, praising his role in advancing the legislation.

“Speaker Tajudeen’s leadership on this bill demonstrates purposeful commitment to education and national development,” Amos said.

The new institution is expected to operate under the name Federal University of Technology and Vocational Studies, Kaduna, following the president’s assent to the bill.

The upgrade places technology and vocational studies at the centre of the institution’s new identity, although further details on its implementation and transition arrangements were not provided in the statement.
