He comes in as the tenth speaker during the morning session on day two of the high-level General Debate. That runs from September 22 to 28. His slot falls between 11:30 a.m. and noon New York time, which lines up with roughly 4:30 p.m. in Nigeria. The draft schedule names 193 presidents, prime ministers, and other senior officials set to take the floor.

This year’s theme is “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”

Over the course of the week Tinubu will join a string of high-level meetings, side events, and summits. The topics include climate action, sea-level rise, and pandemic preparedness.

Nigeria’s ambassador to the UN, Jimoh Ibrahim, said the trip would let the administration lay out its reforms for the international audience. He added that Nigeria wants support for a regional border-policing plan in West Africa. The porous borders there remain a serious security problem.

Tinubu is also scheduled to meet outgoing UN Secretary-General António Guterres. Talk of a possible sit-down with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines has circulated, but no formal meeting has been locked in.

The last time Tinubu attended the General Assembly in person was 2023. Vice-President Kashim Shettima represented Nigeria in both 2024 and 2025.
