Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has dismissed growing speculation over a possible defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking amid increasing political manoeuvring as parties position themselves for the next electoral cycle, the governor described the reports as unfounded and driven by political mischief rather than facts.
Makinde reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, stressing that his focus remains on governance and the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people of Oyo State, rather than engaging in premature political calculations about 2027.
He noted that while politicians are entitled to freedom of association, any decision as significant as changing party affiliation would not be taken lightly or in secrecy, adding that no such move is currently being contemplated.
The governor also urged the public to be wary of unverified reports circulating on social media and political blogs, insisting that his administration remains firmly anchored on its mandate.
As political alignments begin to take shape ahead of the 2027 polls, Makinde’s remarks are expected to calm speculation surrounding his political future and reinforce his standing within the PDP.
