A chieftain of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has defended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, arguing that he should not be held responsible for the recent rise in fuel prices across the country.

The party stalwart said the increase is the result of broader economic realities and long-standing structural issues within Nigeria’s petroleum sector, rather than decisions taken solely by the current administration.

He maintained that the Tinubu government inherited deep-rooted challenges, including subsidy burdens and market distortions, which have continued to influence fuel pricing. According to him, ongoing reforms are aimed at stabilising the sector and ensuring long-term sustainability.

The remarks come amid growing public concern over the cost of living, with many Nigerians linking the spike in petrol prices to recent policy changes under the current administration.

The APC chieftain, however, urged citizens to remain patient, expressing confidence that the government’s economic measures would eventually yield positive results.
