President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Yusuf Magaji Bichi, as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Institute for Security Studies (NISS).
The appointment places the former intelligence chief at the helm of the institute’s governing body, which oversees its institutional direction and strategic priorities in security training and research.
Bichi previously served as Director-General of the DSS, Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency, where he was responsible for overseeing intelligence operations and internal security-related activities.
His appointment comes at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with a range of security challenges, including insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and other threats to public safety.
The National Institute for Security Studies plays a role in developing the capacity of security and intelligence personnel, as well as promoting research and strategic thinking on national security issues.
Further details on the appointment, including its effective date and other members of the governing board, were not immediately available.
The presidency is yet to provide additional information on the circumstances surrounding the appointment.
