President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that Nigeria has moved beyond the difficult phase of economic reforms, saying the country is now entering what he described as an “age of prosperity”.
The President made the declaration in a message marking Nigeria’s Independence Day, highlighting what his administration described as progress recorded since the introduction of major economic reforms in 2023.
Tinubu said the reforms were necessary to address longstanding weaknesses in the economy and restore stability, while acknowledging that they had imposed significant pressures on Nigerians. He maintained that the measures had laid the foundation for stronger economic growth, increased investment and improved public finances.
According to the President, the next phase of his administration would focus increasingly on translating economic gains into tangible improvements in the lives of Nigerians.
He pointed to developments in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, manufacturing and human capital as areas where the government intends to deepen investment and expand opportunities.
The administration has previously cited rising government revenues, improved foreign reserves, increased investment and moderating inflation as indicators of progress from its reform programme. However, the government has also acknowledged that many households continue to face economic hardship and that the benefits of economic recovery must reach ordinary Nigerians.
Tinubu therefore urged Nigerians, investors and businesses to take advantage of what he described as a new phase of economic opportunity, as his administration shifts its emphasis from stabilising the economy to driving growth and prosperity.
