Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has strongly condemned banditry and violent killings, insisting that no religion permits the taking of innocent lives.
“Nowhere in the holy teaching that you should engage in banditry, nowhere that you should kill another human being,” Tinubu said during a public address, as insecurity continues to plague parts of northern Nigeria.
The president’s remarks come amid renewed concerns over rising attacks by armed groups, kidnappings and violent raids that have displaced thousands of people across several communities.
Tinubu stressed that criminality must never be justified under the guise of religion, urging citizens to embrace peace, unity and lawful conduct. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to tackling insecurity and restoring stability across the country.
Nigeria has for years battled armed bandit groups, particularly in the northwest and central regions, where attacks on villages, schools and highways have left hundreds dead and many others abducted.
