Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu has approved the purchase of sports utility vehicles (SUVs) for traditional rulers in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), according to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

The minister disclosed the approval, describing it as part of efforts to support traditional institutions in the territory.

The development comes amid ongoing discussions about the role of traditional rulers in promoting peace, security and community development.

Traditional rulers often serve as intermediaries between government authorities and local communities, particularly in addressing disputes and providing grassroots leadership.

However, further details about the number of vehicles approved, their total cost and when they will be delivered were not immediately available.

The presidency has yet to issue a separate statement on the reported approval.
