President Bola Tinubu has said the true test of leadership lies in service, sacrifice and integrity rather than power, privilege or public display.

The President made the remark on Tuesday while speaking at the presentation of a new book in Abuja, where he reflected on the responsibilities of public office and the enduring values required to lead effectively.

According to Mr Tinubu, genuine leadership is measured by the impact made on people’s lives, particularly the most vulnerable, and not by the trappings that accompany authority. He stressed that leaders must be guided by a clear sense of purpose, moral courage and a commitment to the common good.

He noted that history tends to judge leaders not by the titles they held or the ceremonies that celebrated them, but by the choices they made in moments of challenge and the legacies they left behind.

The President also commended the author of the book for contributing to national discourse, describing literature as a powerful tool for preserving ideas, values and lessons that can guide future generations.

Mr Tinubu urged public office holders and aspiring leaders to embrace humility, accountability and service, warning that leadership divorced from these principles ultimately fails the people it is meant to serve.

The book presentation attracted senior government officials, politicians, scholars and members of the diplomatic community, who described the event as a timely reflection on leadership and nation-building in Nigeria.
