President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Ambassador Ismail Abba Yusuf as the new Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), following the resignation of Professor Abdullahi Usman.
The presidency confirmed the development on Tuesday, marking a leadership change at the agency responsible for overseeing Nigeria’s annual Hajj operations and pilgrims’ welfare.
Ambassador Yusuf takes over from Professor Usman, who stepped down earlier this week after serving in the role for about 14 months. No official reason was given for Usman’s resignation.
Yusuf, a career diplomat, brings decades of experience in public service and international relations to the position. His appointment comes at a critical time as NAHCON prepares for upcoming pilgrimage activities and works to strengthen coordination with Saudi authorities and local stakeholders.
The presidency said Tinubu expects the new NAHCON boss to prioritise transparency, efficiency and improved service delivery for Nigerian pilgrims, in line with the administration’s broader reforms in public institutions.
NAHCON plays a central role in organising Hajj operations, including logistics, accommodation and welfare services for tens of thousands of Nigerian pilgrims each year.
Ambassador Yusuf is expected to assume office immediately.
