Gospel singer Tim Godfrey has spoken out for the first time after facing a wave of criticism over his recent collaboration with Afrobeats star Oxlade.
The artist, known for his energetic stage performances and inspirational lyrics, released a heartfelt open letter titled “To the Labelled”, addressing those who accused him of compromising his faith through secular association.
Godfrey, who featured Oxlade on his new single Infinity, said he understands what it means to be misunderstood and judged by religious communities.
“I know what it feels like to be called worldly, rebellious, and unspiritual. But Jesus never rejected anyone. He sat with the broken, touched the untouchable, and called the forgotten family,” he wrote.
The singer urged Christians to embrace love and inclusion rather than condemnation, reminding believers that faith is not defined by outward appearance.
“You may have tattoos or dreads that make them stare. But neither did Jesus fit the religious image,” he added.
Godfrey also announced his forthcoming project titled “No Label,” which he described as more than an album — a movement for anyone who has ever been “boxed, branded, or broken.” The project, due for release on 31 October 2025, will focus on themes of freedom, grace, and unconditional love.
“This is for everyone who has been told they are not good enough for God’s love. You are seen, you are loved, and you belong,” the gospel star said in his post.
The collaboration between Tim Godfrey and Oxlade drew mixed reactions across social media. While some fans praised the bold crossover, others questioned the choice of partner, citing Oxlade’s past controversies.
Despite the backlash, Godfrey’s message appears to have resonated with many of his supporters, who took to the comment section to express understanding and appreciation.
One follower wrote, “You don’t have to clean up to come to Him. You come to Him and He does the cleansing through love.”
Another user added, “There are standards in God’s kingdom, but we must not forget mercy and love.”
