The Supreme Court has confirmed the death of a former Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Tanko Muhammad, bringing an end to days of speculation surrounding his health.
In a brief statement on Thursday, the apex court announced that Justice Muhammad passed away, describing him as a distinguished jurist who served the nation with dedication and integrity. The court extended its condolences to his family, colleagues and the Nigerian judiciary.
Justice Muhammad, who rose through the ranks of the bench to become Chief Justice, was widely regarded for his decades-long service to the judiciary and his contributions to the development of Nigeria’s legal system.
Tributes have begun pouring in from members of the legal community and public officials, many of whom praised his commitment to justice, discipline and the rule of law.
