Former Jigawa State Governor Sule Lamido has expressed his willingness to meet with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu if such a dialogue would advance national development and unity.
In an exclusive interview with *Tribune Online* at his residence during the Sallah celebrations, Lamido stressed that his openness to engage the President is motivated by the broader interests of Nigeria, rather than partisan considerations.
“I will be more than willing. So when are we going to see him?” he said, signaling readiness for constructive discussions.
Addressing circulating reports that he had declined an invitation from the President to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Lamido dismissed these claims as unfounded.
“When was I invited? Let me know, please. Did he send you to me? I’m hearing this from you for the first time,” he stated, noting that neither the President nor any APC representative has contacted him.
He emphasised that any future meeting with President Tinubu should focus on confronting Nigeria’s pressing challenges and fostering national cohesion.
Responding to speculation linking him to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Lamido described such rumours as baseless, attributing them to social media content creators spreading misinformation.
“In this era of social media and content creation, anything is possible. People sit in their rooms and create stories. I have not seen such pictures,” he said.
On broader national issues, Lamido urged Nigerians to carefully consider their electoral choices, reminding that leadership outcomes reflect the collective decisions of the electorate.
“When we were campaigning, we urged Nigerians to vote right, with integrity and conscience. People voted, and whatever you put in is what you get out,” he remarked.
He also extended warm Eid al-Fitr greetings to Muslim faithful, calling for continued prayers for peace, unity, and stability in the country.
“We thank Allah Almighty for sparing our lives to witness Ramadan. It was a period of repentance, prayers, and supplications,” Lamido said. He prayed for enduring peace and prosperity in Nigeria and urged leaders to act in the nation’s best interests.
