Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has fired a fresh salvo at President Bola Tinubu, advising him to resolve the visible rift with Vice President Kashim Shettima before interfering in the internal affairs of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Atiku’s counsel came in a statement signed by his Media Adviser, Paul Ibe, and was a direct response to remarks made by President Tinubu during the 14th All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Thursday, July 24, 2025.
The former Vice President accused Tinubu of being overly focused on retaining the presidency in 2027, while allegedly failing to fulfill his responsibilities as the nation’s leader and ignoring the pressing plight of Nigerian citizens.
“President Tinubu should first resolve the visible rift between himself and Vice President Kashim Shettima and fix Nigeria’s broken economy before meddling in the affairs of the ADC,” the statement read in part.
Atiku further expressed dismay, stating, “It is baffling that the presidency is spending scarce public funds to fuel internal divisions in an attempt to weaken alternative political voices.”
He also claimed that the supposed disagreements between his supporters and those of Peter Obi within their coalition were “deliberately stirred up by the presidency.” However, Atiku asserted that this “divisive tactic has failed,” adding, “The cracks have been mended, and the Coalition is now stronger than ever.”
