Violence marred the build-up to the Tinubu–Dikko campaign flag-off in the Funtua Senatorial Zone of Katsina State on Wednesday, leaving several All Progressives Congress (APC) supporters injured and multiple vehicles damaged.
Suspected political thugs allegedly ambushed supporters travelling to the venue of the event.
One of the victims, Abubakar Lawal, said their convoy came under attack by armed thugs while passing through Malumfashi en route to Funtua, where Governor Dikko Umaru Radda was scheduled to launch his 2027 re-election campaign.
According to other victims, the attackers used stones and other dangerous objects to smash vehicle windscreens and assault passengers. They called on relevant authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and urged security agencies to beef up security for subsequent campaign rallies.
Despite the violence along the route, Governor Radda proceeded with the flag-off. The event is part of his statewide tour to campaign across the state’s three senatorial zones, 34 local government areas, and 361 wards ahead of the 2027 polls.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no official statement from security agencies regarding the attacks. However, party sources told our reporter that the incident stemmed from internal party squabbles, expressing optimism that the rift would soon be resolved.
