Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has escalated her ongoing conflict with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Dr. Sandra Duru by filing formal petitions with the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun, and Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) Lateef Fagbemi.
The petitions allege criminal conspiracy, defamation, cyber-related offenses, and even an attempt on her life, accusing Akpabio and Duru of orchestrating a “malicious campaign” to undermine her reputation and work.
Akpoti-Uduaghan claims the campaign involves defamation, cyber-stalking, and an assassination attempt. “The allegations against me are false and part of a conspiracy,” she stated. “I fear for my safety and that of my family due to the harassment and intimidation.”
The petition singles out Dr. Sandra Duru, accusing her of initially posing as a supporter under the alias “Prof. Mgbeke” before allegedly launching a character assassination campaign when Akpoti-Uduaghan refused to pay for her services in “framing narratives” and providing digital support.
Akpoti-Uduaghan’s legal team asserts that they have evidence of “a deliberate campaign to malign and endanger” their client through false accusations.
Furthermore, the petition suggests Senator Akpabio has a motive for retaliation, stemming from Akpoti-Uduaghan’s public accusation of sexual harassment against him in February 2025.
Represented by Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Ehiogie West-Idahosa, Akpoti-Uduaghan urges the IGP and AGF to investigate the alleged threats to her life. The petition, dated May 15, 2025, cites “incontrovertible evidence from public broadcasts, witness testimonies, media reports, and expert analyses” to support her claims.
The petition calls on the AGF and IGP to investigate the involvement of third parties who publicly endorsed the alleged defamatory broadcasts, to determine their participation in the alleged conspiracy.
“We maintain that the actions against our client amount to a criminal enterprise violating multiple laws,” her counsel stated. “We respectfully urge your service to painstakingly investigate the contents of this Petition and ensure that justice is expeditiously dispensed to all who may be found wanting regardless of their status in the Nigerian society.”
