Roma climbed to the summit of Serie A on Sunday, defeating Fiorentina 2-1 in a thrilling encounter that saw them recover from an early deficit. The win, Roma’s third consecutive victory in Italy’s top flight, places them three points ahead of defending champions AC Milan and Inter Milan, who triumphed over Cremonese the day before.

The match, held in Florence, saw Moise Kean give Fiorentina the lead with a stunning strike in the 14th minute. However, Roma responded strongly, with Bryan Cristante’s header and Matias Soule’s precise finish ensuring a comeback by halftime. Despite a powerful shot from Kean hitting the post in the 38th minute, Fiorentina could not regain their lead.

Roma’s defensive resilience was tested in the second half, with Roberto Piccoli’s volley rattling the crossbar in the 74th minute. Fiorentina’s failure to capitalize on these chances leaves them winless, stuck on three points and hovering just above the relegation zone.

With the victory, Roma now sit on 15 points, overtaking their rivals. Napoli and Milan will have an opportunity to match Roma’s points later on Sunday, with Napoli hosting struggling Genoa and Milan facing Juventus in Turin. Juventus, currently five points behind Roma, will aim to close the gap in a crucial clash.

“Roma’s resolve under Gian Piero Gasperini continues to impress as they prove their championship credentials,” said one Serie A expert. “The team’s comeback against Fiorentina sets the tone for what promises to be an exciting title race.”
