A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State has described the protracted political crisis in the state as an ego-driven conflict rather than a struggle centred on any single individual.

Darlington Nwauju, spokesperson of the Rivers State chapter of the APC, said the turmoil rocking the state reflects a clash of personal interests and ambitions among key political actors.

Speaking in an interview, Nwauju argued that the crisis has often been wrongly personalised, obscuring what he described as a broader contest of influence and control.

“The Rivers crisis is not about one person. It is an ego war,” he said, adding that reducing the situation to individual names fails to address the underlying issues fueling the standoff.

He called on political leaders and stakeholders in the state to put personal differences aside in the interest of stability and good governance, warning that prolonged political tension could undermine development and public trust.

Rivers State has been embroiled in political uncertainty following disputes among major political blocs, leading to governance challenges and heightened tensions across the state.

Observers say resolving the crisis will require dialogue, compromise and a focus on the collective interests of the people rather than individual ambitions.
