It is with great concern that I address the recent comments made by Mr. Shamsudeen Mohammed. While filial loyalty is expected and even admirable, it must never be allowed to overshadow reason, decorum, and the larger interest of the nation.
Shamsudeen’s outburst was not only ill-considered but deeply unbecoming of someone who benefits from the goodwill of a respected political legacy. The tone, the substance, and the timing betray a lack of political maturity and a profound misunderstanding of the delicate balance between personal emotion and national discourse.
His father, Senator Bala Mohammed, is a statesman of vast experience and strategic intellect. His journey through Nigeria’s political landscape—including a well-documented and pragmatic alliance with His Excellency Atiku Abubakar—is evidence of a man guided by national interest and sound judgment. To suggest that such a man would now require his son’s public outrage as a political compass is not only presumptuous—it is insulting.
The Nigeria we seek to build cannot afford to be distracted by an inherited sense of entitlement or the bruised ego of a politician’s son. Leadership is not passed down through bloodline—it is earned by character, service, and vision.
If Shamsudeen truly desires to honor his father’s name and contribute meaningfully, let him begin by learning the values of restraint, wisdom, and statesmanship that true leadership demands.
This is not a season for petty outbursts. It is a season for national healing, unity, and clear-headed dialogue in pursuit of a greater Nigeria. As much as passion is admired, wisdom must always guide it. Let us not allow the fire of personal pride to burn down the bridge of collective progress.
Signed,
Ahmad Baba,
Kogi State.
