Nigerian rapper Emeka Akumefule, popularly known as Blaqbonez, has been dragged to court over allegations of cyber harassment, blackmail, and the circulation of a woman’s private video without consent.
A legal petition filed by Bristol & Mortglass C.S., acting on behalf of a woman identified as Jane Doe, accused the artiste of violating her privacy and causing severe emotional distress.
The law firm, in a statement issued on Sunday, alleged that the incident began after the woman rejected Blaqbonez’s romantic advances in December 2024, leading to what they described as months of intimidation and public humiliation.
According to the petition, the rapper allegedly obtained and shared private video content belonging to the woman, actions which her lawyers say amount to criminal offences under multiple Nigerian laws.
The firm stated, “Our client has endured persistent online harassment, false accusations, and deliberate attempts to damage her reputation. Repeated appeals to the respondent to desist were ignored, leaving her with no choice but to seek redress through law enforcement.”
The lawyers further cited sections of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act 2015, the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act 2015, and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023, noting that the artiste’s alleged conduct contravenes the provisions of all three legislations.
It was also disclosed that another legal firm, TIA Solicitors, had previously written to Blaqbonez in December 2024 and January 2025, demanding the deletion of the private materials, a public apology, and the payment of ₦200 million as damages. Despite two formal notices delivered to his residence, the harassment was said to have continued.
The lawyers claim that their client now lives in fear for her safety, having suffered “deep emotional trauma” due to the sustained attacks online.
