President Bola Tinubu has extended his heartfelt congratulations to singer Tems for winning the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles on Sunday.
Tems, whose real name is Temilade Openiyi, clinched the Grammy with her hit song “Love Me Jeje.” This victory marks her second Grammy win, following her previous accolade for her contribution to Future’s chart-topping single “Wait For U.”
The Best African Music Performance category featured notable contenders, including Yemi Alade’s “Tomorrow,” Asake’s “MMS,” Chris Brown’s “Sensational” (featuring Davido and Lojay), and Burna Boy’s “Higher.”
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Monday, President Tinubu expressed his pride in the 29-year-old artist and other Nigerians nominated for the prestigious awards. He stated, “Congratulations to @temsbaby on winning the Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance for ‘Love Me Jeje.’ I am proud of her accomplishments and those of Nigerian origin who were nominated for the Grammy awards. Their achievements continue to inspire all Nigerians. Congratulations!”
The Best African Music Performance category, introduced just last year, was previously awarded to South African artist Tyla for her hit single “Water.”
