The Presidency has sought to calm public concerns over the health of President Bola Tinubu, affirming that he is “hale and hearty” and fully engaged in his official duties during his state visit to Turkey.
The reassurance followed an incident in Ankara where the President briefly stumbled during a welcome reception, sparking speculation on social media. In a statement on Tuesday, the Presidency explained that the stumble was caused by a poorly laid blue carpet at the venue and not by any underlying health issue.
According to the Presidency, President Tinubu promptly recovered from the momentary slip and proceeded with his scheduled engagements without interruption. It added that the President has since resumed his official assignments and remains in high spirits.
At the time of the statement, President Tinubu was holding a bilateral meeting with Turkish authorities as part of efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic ties between Nigeria and Turkey. The discussions are expected to cover areas of mutual interest, including trade, investment and security cooperation.
The Presidency further disclosed that both sides will later address a joint press conference, reaffirming the productive nature of the visit and Nigeria’s commitment to deepening relations with Turkey.
The statement urged the public to disregard unfounded reports and assured Nigerians that the President remains fit to discharge his responsibilities.
