Bayo Onanuga, special adviser to the president on information and strategy, has mocked Peter Obi over his defection from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), intensifying rhetoric around Nigeria’s shifting political alliances.

Onanuga described the former presidential candidate as a “political nomad,” in a pointed remark that questions Obi’s consistency amid a series of political realignments.

Obi, who previously contested under the Labour Party, had in December 2025 announced plans to align with the coalition-backed ADC. His reported exit from the party has since triggered fresh criticism from government circles.

The comments reflect widening tensions in Nigeria’s political landscape, where defections and coalition manoeuvres continue to shape calculations ahead of future elections.

Obi has yet to publicly respond to the remarks, but the exchange underscores the increasingly sharp tone of political discourse as key figures reposition for influence.
