Former Secretary to the Abia State Government, Dr. Eme Okoro, has warned the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it risks losing support in the South East if it fails to zone its 2027 presidential ticket to the region.

Speaking with journalists in Umuahia on Monday, the PDP founding member described himself as “one of the remnants in PDP” and cautioned that the party could not be assured of votes from the South East unless its interests were protected.

Okoro criticised the party’s leadership style, accusing it of “imposition, impunity, authoritarianism and disrespect to agreements,” which he said had eroded public trust.

“PDP must zone the Presidential ticket to the South East. Ala Igbo must produce the Presidential candidate of any party that wants my support and those of the people. We must not repeat the mistake of the past and we should respect the principles of equity,” he stated.

The former SSG recalled that the PDP performed poorly in Abia State during the 2023 general elections because, according to him, the party ignored his earlier warnings against imposition and disregard for the Abia Charter of Equity.

He further explained that his decision to support Governor Alex Otti of the Labour Party, despite being a PDP member, was based on performance. “I have no regrets supporting Governor Otti. My support was based on his achievements,” Okoro said.
