A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Daniel Osi Orbih, has died.
Orbih, a major figure in Edo State politics and the PDP National Vice Chairman for the South-South, reportedly died on Monday, 31 August 2026. His death was confirmed by his family in a statement issued on Tuesday.
The statement, signed by Francis Udukhomoi Orbih, Esq., on behalf of the Orbih family, said the family received the news “with profound sadness and a heavy heart” while submitting to the will of God.
The family appealed to relatives, friends and well-wishers to remember them in their prayers as they mourn what it described as a painful loss.
Orbih was also widely known for his close political relationship with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Reacting to his death, Wike described Orbih as a true friend and political associate, saying his death had left a significant void in his life and in Edo’s political landscape.
Orbih was a long-standing figure in the PDP and had played a prominent role in the party’s affairs, particularly in the South-South and Edo State.
His death comes at a politically significant period, with Nigeria’s political parties already positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs Florence Orbih, his children, siblings and other members of his extended family.
The family said details of his funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
