The Forum of State Chairmen of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of using intimidation and coercion to pressure its governors, senators, and lawmakers into defecting.

In a joint statement issued by Dr Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman, and Sir Edward Percy Masha, Secretary, the forum described the APC’s actions as “undemocratic, desperate, and systematic attempts to weaken the opposition and erode Nigeria’s democratic values.”

The PDP chairmen made the allegations following a meeting held on Monday, 14 October 2025, at the party’s FCT Secretariat in Abuja. The meeting reviewed internal unity, preparations for the forthcoming National Elective Convention scheduled for 15–16 November 2025, and the overall health of the opposition across the country.

“The ruling party’s conduct amounts to an assault on democracy and a dangerous move towards establishing a de facto one-party state, which Nigerians must collectively resist,” the forum declared.

The PDP leaders also expressed concern about internal sabotage allegedly fuelled by external political interests. They cited the recent legal action by Hon. Austine Nwachukwu (Imo State) and Hon. Amah Abraham Nnana (Abia State) seeking to halt the party’s convention, describing it as a betrayal of collective unity and resolve.

Consequently, the forum announced the suspension of both members and appointed Dr Tony Aziegbemi, Chairman of Edo State PDP, as the new Chairman of the PDP State Chairmen Forum.

Reaffirming their commitment to strengthening the opposition, the forum urged PDP members nationwide to remain steadfast, disciplined, and united ahead of the upcoming national convention.
