Firstly, I would like to extend my commendation to His Excellency, President Sen. Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR, for assenting to the bill aimed at advancing the development of the North Central Region.

This gesture of equity and fairness reflects a commitment to ensuring that every region receives its rightful share of development.

I also wish to express my gratitude to our distinguished lawmakers, including Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, Senator Abbah Moro, and other legislators, who worked tirelessly to bring this vision to fruition. Your names will be etched in the history of the region for this laudable achievement.

The establishment of the North Central Development Commission (NCDC) heralds a new era of progress for the North Central region of Nigeria.

Following its successful passage through the National Assembly and the subsequent presidential assent, the NCDC is now a legal entity poised to tackle the unique challenges confronting our communities and unlock the region’s vast potential.

The formation of the NCDC marks a pivotal moment in our collective efforts to revitalize communities plagued by insecurity, inadequate infrastructure, and socio-economic disparities. The Commission is equipped with a comprehensive mandate that includes a variety of critical areas, such as:

  1. *Infrastructure Development:

Enhancing critical infrastructure, including roads, bridges, power supply, and water resources, will stimulate economic growth and elevate the quality of life for residents.

  1. Human Capital Development: Prioritizing education, healthcare, skills acquisition, and youth empowerment programs to equip our population with the necessary tools for success.
  2. Agricultural Revitalization: Supporting local farmers and promoting sustainable agricultural practices to bolster food security and expand economic opportunities within the agricultural sector.
  3. Peacebuilding and Conflict Resolution: Engaging communities to foster peace and security, addressing the root causes of conflict, and facilitating reconciliation efforts.
  4. Environmental Management: Implementing sustainable practices to safeguard our natural resources and mitigate the effects of climate change on our ecosystem.

Senator Isah Jibrin Echocho, a key advocate for the NCDC Bill, expressed his enthusiasm for the Commission’s establishment, noting, “This is a momentous occasion for the North Central region. The NCDC represents a renewed commitment to tackling the developmental challenges that have long beset our communities. It provides a dedicated platform for collaboration, leveraging our collective resources and expertise to create a brighter future for our people.”

The NCDC is committed to operating with transparency and accountability, working hand in hand with state governments, local communities, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to ensure that its initiatives are responsive to the specific needs and priorities of the region. Inclusive development will be at the forefront of every action, ensuring that all voices are heard and the benefits of progress are equitable across the North Central region.

We call on all stakeholders to join in this vital endeavor to transform the North Central region into a beacon of sustainable development, peace, and prosperity.
