The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has called on the people of Ibadan to continue upholding the city’s long-standing tradition of peaceful co-existence, urging residents to be united in the face of diversity.

Addressing the Council of Traditional Baales in Ibadanland during a meeting at the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, on Wednesday, Oba Ladoja, who was represented by the Ekerin Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Akeem Adewoyin, emphasised the need for peace, unity and collective progress.

A statement issued on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, Mr Gbenga Ayoade, highlighted the monarch’s message, which stressed communal harmony as the bedrock of Ibadan’s development.

“Ibadanland is known to enjoy peaceful co-existence irrespective of differences in language, religion, and tribe,” Oba Ladoja stated. “I, therefore, urge you all to remain peaceful and be your brothers’ keepers.”

The monarch-designate further appealed for continuous prayers and unwavering support from all stakeholders to advance the fortunes of Ibadan and Oyo State as a whole.
The transition to a new Olubadan marks a significant moment in the cultural and political life of Ibadanland, a city steeped in rich history and traditional values. As preparations intensify for the installation of Oba Rashidi Ladoja, many stakeholders have commended the peaceful nature of the succession process, describing it as a reflection of the maturity and resilience of the Ibadan traditional institution.

Local leaders and community stakeholders have also reiterated the importance of continuity, unity, and development under the leadership of the Olubadan-designate, a former governor of Oyo State widely respected for his contributions to public service and governance.

Speaking on the expectations of the people, one of the Mogajis, Chief Abass Oloko, noted, “We believe that Oba Ladoja will bring his wealth of experience to bear in strengthening the traditional institution and promoting grassroots development.”

Similarly, Mogaji Nurudeen Akinade stated that Ibadan stood on the cusp of a new era, where tradition and modern leadership would work hand-in-hand to address the needs of the people. “Our culture is not static,” he remarked. “Under the leadership of the new Olubadan, we expect to see the merging of time-honoured customs with innovative thinking that prioritises education, security, and youth empowerment.”

As tradition demands, the final rites leading to the coronation are expected to be carried out in accordance with established customs, with royal blessings and consultations with all key chiefs and kingmakers.

Meanwhile, residents across the city have continued to pay glowing tributes to the late Oba Olakulehin, whose reign, though brief, was marked by dignity, wisdom, and a passion for community harmony.

With the ascension of Oba Rashidi Ladoja drawing near, the prevailing mood in Ibadan remains one of optimism and collective hope. His call for unity has resonated deeply, especially in a time where national cohesion is increasingly vital.
