Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland, has called on President Bola Tinubu to expedite the creation of Ibadan State, urging that it be established before 2027.

The monarch made the plea after receiving the Staff of Office from Governor Seyi Makinde, addressing the people of Ibadan in Yoruba. He said, “My people sent me a message to Mr. President. Mr. President, they said the creation of Ibadan State is their priority.”

Governor Makinde, in his address, celebrated Ladoja’s coronation as a significant moment for the people of Ibadan. He described it as a moment of great honour and pride, emphasizing the importance of upholding the city’s traditions. “The succession process to the throne of Olubadan is now well established and free from contestation, and this is a source of pride for us all,” said Makinde.

The ceremony, attended by notable figures such as Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, and former governors including Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Dr. Kayode Fayemi, was a grand celebration for the people of Ibadan. Political figures from the region, such as Senator Sharafadeen Abiodun and former governor candidate Teslim Folarin, also joined in the festivities.

Oba Ladoja’s traditional rites were performed earlier by the Afobaje of Ibadanland, Chief Waheed Popoola, before the monarch’s procession to Mapo Hall for the official ceremony. The presence of prominent leaders and lawmakers underscores the unity and pride felt in Ibadanland as they look toward the future under the new reign of Oba Adewolu Ladoja.
