Popular Nigerian influencer Ola of Lagos has disclosed how a single act of generosity once left him in heavy debt, forcing him to rethink his approach to kindness and business.
Speaking during a recent online chat, the content creator recounted how he got entangled in a failed deal that dragged him into a financial crisis. According to him, the decision was made not out of pity but simply because he wanted to extend help.
He lamented: “Imagine pulling ₦18 million from your pocket to settle a debt you had no business incurring in the first place. It makes no sense.”
The auto-reviewer-turned-social media star, known for his flamboyant lifestyle and philanthropic gestures, admitted that the setback was a painful but important lesson. While the experience shook him, he stressed that it has not stopped him from giving back to society.
“Of course, I still show love to the streets. But now I do it with sense,” he added.
The revelation quickly sparked reactions across social media. Some sympathised with him, warning that people often take advantage of kind-hearted individuals. Others shared similar experiences of financial loss in the name of generosity.
Ola of Lagos, who has previously received high-profile gifts such as a ₦20 million cash reward from music producer Don Jazzy, maintained that his love for helping people remains intact, only that he has now learnt to balance compassion with caution.
