Former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to strictly uphold all electoral guidelines in the run-up to the forthcoming elections, beginning with the verification of candidates’ educational qualifications.
Obi, who made the remarks in a statement on Tuesday, stressed that Nigerians should never be left uncertain about the academic background of those seeking to lead them.
“We urge INEC to adhere strictly to all electoral rules in the forthcoming elections, beginning with educational qualifications. Nigerians should not be questioning whether a candidate attended school,” he said.
He emphasised that credibility, transparency, and due process must be prioritised to strengthen public confidence in the electoral system.
According to Obi, enforcing qualification standards is not merely a procedural requirement but a fundamental step toward ensuring competent leadership and safeguarding the integrity of Nigeria’s democracy.
INEC has yet to formally respond to his comments.
