Nigeria’s opposition figure Peter Obi has met with former President Goodluck Jonathan in a renewed round of political consultations as he continues building momentum ahead of a potential presidential bid.

The meeting, held in Abuja, brought together Obi with Jonathan, who led Nigeria between 2010 and 2015, in discussions widely seen as part of ongoing realignments within the country’s political landscape ahead of the next general election cycle.

Obi, a former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, arrived at the meeting accompanied by a delegation that included Igbo political elders, lawmakers aligned with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) from Nigeria’s southeast region, as well as close political associates.

While details of the discussions were not made public, the visit is being interpreted as part of Obi’s widening consultations with key political actors across party lines.

Both Obi and Jonathan have maintained relatively quiet public political positions in recent months, though they continue to attract significant attention in Nigeria’s evolving opposition dynamics.

The development comes amid growing speculation over possible alliances and strategic partnerships ahead of the 2027 elections, as political figures begin early positioning in Africa’s most populous nation.
