The legislative chamber of Nigeria’s northwestern state of Kano State has approved the nomination of Murtala Garo as deputy governor, following the adoption of a screening report by lawmakers on Monday.
The decision was taken by the Kano State House of Assembly after a 12-member ad hoc committee recommended his confirmation during plenary session in the state capital, Kano.
The committee, chaired by Deputy Speaker Bello Butubutua, presented its findings to lawmakers under the leadership of Speaker Jibril Falgore, who presided over the sitting.
Garo’s approval marks a key political development in the state’s executive structure, formalising his emergence as second-in-command to the governor after legislative scrutiny.
Lawmakers adopted the report without reported opposition, clearing the way for his official assumption of office in the coming days.
