The Federal High Court in Abuja, human rights activist Omoyele Sowore on Monday confronted the former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, mocking the former minister’s transition from chief prosecutor to a defendant.
In a viral video of the encounter, Sowore is seen directly addressing Malami, drawing a parallel between the activist’s past legal battles under the Buhari administration and Malami’s current struggles with security agencies.
“You see how it feels now to be persecuted,” Sowore said. “When you were with Buhari, you were bragging. We warned you then that there was failure in the justice system, but you didn’t listen, and now the system is dealing with you.”
The confrontation occurred as Malami appeared in court to face allegations brought by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS). The former AGF is currently dealing with charges involving money laundering, unlawful possession of firearms, and the unlawful acquisition of assets.
During the exchange, Sowore mockingly offered Malami an orange beret—the symbol of his ‘Revolution Now’ movement. “I want to give you my cap. This is a revolutionary cap,” Sowore stated.
Despite the pointed remarks, Malami remained composed, defending his resilience. “I can never be down,” Malami replied. “I have been attending all my court sittings. I will keep attending. And I remain strong.”
Malami is currently contesting a court order for the temporary forfeiture of his assets, arguing that they were acquired through lawful means.
