The North-East caucus of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally declared their unwavering support for Hon. Nafiu Bala as the acting national chairman of the party. This endorsement follows the voluntary resignation of Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu and underscores a commitment to ensuring continuity and stability within the ADC’s ranks.

At a high-level stakeholders’ meeting held in Bauchi, representatives from the six states of the North-East zone expressed confidence in Bala’s leadership role, emphasising the need for a smooth transition consistent with the party’s constitution. Hon. Shehu Usman, the Zonal Publicity Secretary, dismissed claims by a self-styled Gombe State ADC chairman, Auwal Barde, who announced Bala’s alleged expulsion. He described the announcement as “invalid, unlawful and illegal,” noting that Bala had neither been accused of any misconduct nor subjected to disciplinary proceedings.

“The purported expulsion lacks any basis,” Usman stated. “No disciplinary process or notification was served to Hon. Nafiu Bala, who remains in good standing and enjoys the support of grassroots members across his ward in Gombe State.” He further urged all prospective coalition members to adhere strictly to the party’s registration procedures and respect established party structures to bolster internal democracy and lawful operations.

This caucus endorsement aims to quell the factional disputes challenging ADC’s unity amid a broader leadership crisis. Bala himself has condemned efforts by external actors to destabilise the party, affirming his role as the rightful acting chairman under the party’s constitutional framework. The North-East ADC leadership reasserted their commitment to democratic renewal, transparency, and a cohesive vision for Nigeria’s political future.

They called on all party faithful and allies to unite under mature, legal processes toward building a stronger and more equitable Nigeria. The caucus also condemned divisive tactics by some individuals, calling for vigilance and loyalty from all members to uphold the party’s principles.
